Red Stick Farmers Market

The alarm sounds @ 5:30 am!  I smell coffee and that helps a little.  A cup of coffee later consciousness begins and I realize it’s time for a shower.  By 7:30 we’re pulling out of the driveway heading for a farmers market — today is Saturday!

No matter where we are, we look for a Farmers Market to shop.  Most frequently we are in the Baton Rouge, LA area and the Red Stick Farmers Market is our shopping experience.  Our purchases from a typical farmers market makes up the majority of our weekly groceries.

Grab your basket and let’s go shopping!

HOT!

It’s summer, it’s New Orleans, it’s HOT!

Hot describes the last few weeks in south Louisiana.  Okay so it is nothing out of the ordinary, it is still HOT!  Some people may believe Southerns stay in the air conditioning and sip mint juleps – not so.  We go out in the heat, dance, eat and enjoy festivals.  The weekend of June 11th was the Vieux To Do Festival in New Orleans.  Vieux To Do is three festivals in one – Cajun/Zydeco Music, Creole Tomato, and Seafood.

Crescent City Farmers Market

The Saturday morning Crescent City Farmers Market in New Orleans was bursting with activity as well as color.  The flowers and vegetables would fill an artist palate with a rainbow of colors.  We always try to walk a market to see the offerings and then decide what to purchase.

In Honor of Vieux To Do: Shrimp, Creole Tomato, & Zydeco

Vieux To Do” is this weekend in the French Quarter in New Orleans, LA.  This festival is three in one: Creole Tomato, Cajun Zydeco Music, and Seafood Festivals.  To get ourselves ready to eat, drink, dance and thoroughly enjoy the heat we prepared a shrimp dish along with a creole tomato salad.  We played Zydeco music, opened a favorite bottle of wine and Zydecoed as we cooked.  Recipes posted on RV Cajun Cooking.  Join us as we enjoy the bounty South Louisiana offers…

After cooking and practicing our Zydeco dancing in the kitchen – we are ready for the Vieux To Do.  Join us at the NOLA Trifecta!

Rescued by Wildlife

The “Mighty Mississippi” just keeps rolling along and rising.

Living five houses from the levee, we wanted to put some distance between our house and our RV. We headed to Tickfaw State Park which would allow us to commute to work and be high and dry. At least as high as Louisiana will allow. Having been to Tickfaw in October 2010 and blogged about the trip we were not sure what we would blog about this time. Never underestimate new finds in old locations.

Box Wine for a Wineaux

We RV and we enjoy wine. Bottle wine is heavy, breakable, and difficult to store in an RV. Box wine should be perfect for the RV, but is  not known for its quality. We used to tease my mom who always had a box of wine in her frig, her favorite was white zinfandel but we like much heavier, bolder reds. Our favorites are cabernet, red zin, syrah/sirah, and malbec.  I guess life comes full circle so let’s take a look at Black Box Wine.

Power of Water

The power of water!

Watching the water from the Mississippi River flow through  the Bonnet Carre Control Structure gave me a new meaning to the “power of water”.  On the River side of the structure the water  is calm yet coming out of the structure it looks like a fire hose on steroids.

Backroads To The Big Easy

Water seems to be incorporated into my recent adventures.  After our trip to Houma and points south, Linda and I headed to New Orleans.  Again we decided to use the less traveled roads and followed the old highway (Highway 61) into New Orleans; stopping along the way to see the sights.  The highway passes through the Western Maurepas Swamp Wildlife Management Area.  The water gave us a serene and peaceful driving atmosphere.

Water, Art and Spirit

Water, art, and spirit…

Often the adventure is just as exciting as the destination and so it was with my trip to Houma, LA for a retreat at the Lumen Christi Retreat Center. My sister, Linda, flew in from Colorado and we headed out to Houma, LA with the intention to sightsee along the way.  In South LA water is everywhere – rivers, bayous, lakes, swamps, estuaries and finally the gulf itself.  So water became the theme of our adventure.  This was not intentional, it just happened.
