Tale of Two Markets

FlowersVisiting friends in Cecilia, LA meant shopping at the Lafayette Farmers Market.  Upon researching we learned that Lafayette has two farmers markets, what joy!  Being farmers market fanatics, we were all over this information.  Luckily Saturday morning was a beautiful Spring day with blue skies and mild temperatures.  Even in May, south Louisiana can have very hot days.  Off we went basket in hand!

Our first stop was the Acadiana Farmers Market, 801 Foreman Drive.  It is what we call a traditional farmers market with fresh vegetables, fruits and eggs.  We purchased blackberries and squash.  The selection was slim yet everything offered was fresh and appealing.

Next stop Hub City Farmers Market, 427 Heymann Blvd; this market is more than produce.  You can find pasta, breads, tamales, spring rolls, and coffee along with fresh produce.  The market was started in 2010 by Gotreaux Family Farms with a mission of providing local organic and holistic foods and connecting the farmers with the community.  The Acadiana Artist Market is the third Saturday of each month.  Unfortunately we did not visit on a third Saturday so we did not get to enjoy the art; another visit on the agenda.  Our purchases included fresh pasta, jams, eggs, and tamales along with fresh produce.

It is fun shopping different farmers markets, talking with the farmers and learning about their farms and what they produce as well as trying new items.
