Farmers markets are the food life of a community. They are more than just a place to purchase food and other items. For us, farmers markets are our cooking’s life line. It is not only purchasing the fresh items; it is also interacting with the farmers. By doing this, we truly know and understand where our food comes from and we appreciate each and every farmer. We have been known to change our route so we have the opportunity to shop at a farmers market.
Marksville, LA holds a special place in our hearts. It is home to La Petite Affaire Boulangers and everything which goes along with the name. Roy and Tara, the two special chefs at La Petite Affaire, produce an outstanding menu every Friday night. The menu is truly farm to table and the farmers at this market are the source for many of the menu ingredients.
On Saturday morning, La Petite Affaire means farmers market within the cafe. The weather will not affect you – rain or shine, hot or cold. You can enjoy coffee and breakfast as well as shopping for the freshest produce. The farmers come from the Marksville area and include traditional as well as unique items – oyster mushrooms, heirloom tomatoes, jams and jellies, granola, dried herbs, BBQ sauces and rubs, as well as many other items. There are also worm castings for improving soil health.
This week was all about Tomatoes! There were tomatoes of every color, shape and size. Of course, our favorite are always Heirloom Tomatoes and we were not disappointed. Boe Farm has an array of heirlooms.
Our purchases included oyster mushrooms, rose petal jelly, blueberries, heirloom tomatoes, microgreens and granola as well as coffee and breakfast.
If you are in the Marksville, LA area, make a trip to the Saturday morning (9-12) farmers market at La Petite Affaire Cafe, 317 N. Main Str, Marksville, LA. Come hungry and ready to shop for your week’s vegetables and other items.
