La Petite Affaire Boulangers – Marksville, LA

Every once in a while we happen upon an establishment that seems out of place. It is like, “what is this doing here? It should be in a much larger city!” And so that happened to us in Marksville, LA.

Marksville is a favorite stop of ours because it has a first class RV Park, Paragon Casino RV Park. The sites are large, full service, concrete, all around great. So here we are in Marksville for about two weeks. Now what? We have been here so many times there is not much we have not seen or done.

Except, we found a new cafe on Main Street, La Petite Affaire Boulangers. At first, it seems out of place and then why not Marksville.

In talking with the proprietor, Roy Guilbeau, we learned he and his wife were in the restaurant industry in the Morgan City/Houma area of south Louisiana. They always had a dream of opening a restaurant; just not in the area where they lived. Along with business partners, Tara Rodney and husband, they moved to the Marksville area and began out of their home. They sold their bread and pastries at the local farmers market. Then the opportunity arose to move into a stick and brick location, 317 N. Main Street, Marksville, LA.

June is John’s birthday month and he enjoys the entire month of wonderful things to eat and places to go. We happened upon Le Petite Affaire Boulangers at lunch and wanted one of everything. We settled on Potato Soup, Ham & Cheese Croissant and dessert of a Pain aux Raisin, pinwheel with custard and raisins, and a Kouign-Amann, pieces of croissant pastry rolled with sugar, along with French Press Coffee. The food was delicious. The croissant pastry was flaky, tender and melted in our mouths. The soup was hardy, yet delicate in flavor.

Once was not enough for us. The farmers market was the next day, Saturday and the cafe was open during market hours. So back we went. This time we had Boudin and Pepper Jack Quiche with a bowl of Four Cheese Grits topped with crumbled bacon. Finished off with French Press Coffee. The quiche had just the right bite, not overpowering with pepper. The crust was flaky and tender. The grits was amazing; creamy, soft and very flavorful. No additional seasoning necessary, the perfect bowl of grits.

We can’t get enough, back for coffee and dessert. This trip consisted of Blackberry Cobbler and Chocolate Croissant. Enjoyed dessert with French Press Coffee.

Another very important aspect of La Petite Affaire Boulangers is they source ingredients locally. Roy forages for mushrooms; can’t get much more local than that. When you have fresh food made with fresh, local ingredients, it has to be great and delicious. And so you have La Petite Affaire Boulangers.

La Petite Affaire Boulangers is a fantastic addition to the restaurants of Marksville. If you are looking for breakfast or lunch and are anywhere near Marksville, drive over and enjoy La Petite Affaire Boulangers.
