Military vehicles and equipment caught our eye as we traveled US Highway 78 in Tallapossa GA. A note was made to return when we had time to visit the park. Tallapossa GA is the home of Safe T Plus, one of whose products is a steering control unit for motorhomes. We were there to have ours checked. Needing to stay longer than expected, we had the time to return to Helton Howland Park.
The park has several levels and is great for walking. Besides the military vehicles and equipment, there is a fishing lake, picnic area, walking paths and an amphitheater. Self contained RVs may stay free with a reservation.
The military vehicles included fighter jets, tanks, and helicopters. Most were restored with one in the restoration process.
The Republic F-105 Thunderchief is the only US aircraft to be removed from combat service due to its high rate of loss. There were 833 aircraft built. Of these, combat losses were 395; accidental losses were 217; scrapped aircraft were 133; and 108 are on display. This park is honored to have two Republic F-105 Thunderchiefs.
Whether you go for a picnic, July fireworks, camping or a walk through the park; this park is worth a visit.
Bon Jour! I have tried to get in touch with you all since our chance meeting in Nova Scotia at the Catholic Mass at Immaculate Conception in Truro. We were 3 ladies (2 aunts and a neice) from Baton Rouge on our trip to Nova Scotia! Just wanted to see if b you were still traveling.
Bon Jour! Great to hear from you. Yes, we are still traveling and planning to go to Nova Scotia next summer. We hope you and the others are still traveling and enjoying life. We will be in the Baton Rouge area in March 2024. We will try to contact you and hopefully meet for lunch.
