Hopewell Rocks, New Brunswick, Canada

“You have to go see Hopewell Rocks” was the mantra from friends who knew we were in the Canadian Maritimes. As we travel, people will tell us “you have to go there, you have to see that, etc”. These places and things may or may not be on our route or things we are even interested in. So as we traveled the Maritimes “Walking in the Footsteps of Our Ancestors”, people kept always telling us what to do and see. Since our mission was to trace our ancestors, other things and places were secondary. One of these places was Hopewell Rocks and we wanted to see the rocks yet the time was never right.

Shortly before we left the Maritimes, we looked at each other and said “we have to go to Hopewell Rocks”. On an overcast day we took off south toward the Bay of Fundy. The drive was rural and we enjoyed the countryside. The parking lot was not totally jammed, we parked and off we went in search of the “Rocks”, thinking it would not be really crowded. It was a hike down to the rocks with steep areas, but it was hard surface which made for an easier walk. The area was crowded and because of this it was hard to take the type of pictures we wanted or to really enjoy the scenry of the area. We walked down to the floor of the bay and walked among the “Rocks”.

We can’t say it was an awe moment, but it was something we are glad we did. Just thinking about the tidal change each day is amazing. All through our journey we walked on the bay floor in various locations. Granted none had the “Rocks”, yet each was remarkable and had something unique to offer.

Our take on Hopewell Rocks – we went, we hiked, we saw, we took pictures, and yes, we enjoyed..
