McComb, MS – What happened to Kentwood, LA?  We generally are where we are staying by 2:00 p.m., but knowing we had only a short drive from Baton to Kentwood, we did not leave Baton Rouge until 1:30 p.m.    Arriving at the park in Kentwood, LA, we realized this was not the park for us!  By now it was 3:30 p.m. and we had no place to stay and no idea where we would stay.  Pulling some far ago memory out, I remembered Bogue Chitto Water Park out of McComb, MS.  We called, they answered, and we were off to Bogue Chitto Water Park.  Arriving just before dark, we chose our full hookup spot and set up for the week.  What a difference in the two parks!  Bogue Chitto Water Park is a popular summer spat for tubing and canoeing on the river, however after the weather turns cold I there are relative few people and it has great wooded RV sites.

As I have said before, I research each area we are visiting and look for things to see and do.  I had the entire week planned for the Kentwood, LA area and here we were outside of McComb, MS.  In researching McComb, MS, not much was available.  We found the tourist information center and they were very nice and helpful, giving us as much information as they had.  The only interesting thing we found was the Railroad Museum in McComb.

This Railroad Museum was built and maintained by the retired railroad workers in the area.  The museum is housed in the 1901 McComb Railroad Depot, which is also currently used as an Amtrak Depot.  The museum is home to numerous artifacts of railroad history including a telegraph key and railroad bell collection.  Outside houses as much history as the depot.  One of the two largest steam engines in the Illinois Central fleet, #2542, and the only aluminum refrigerator car, #51000, ever built are on display outside.  There is also a 1966cupola style caboose, #9384, on display.  The massiveness of these cars is breathtaking.

Even though McComb did not offer much in the way of sights, the Water Park had abundant offerings.   What do you do at a water park in November?  The park has numerous trails for hiking and paved roads perfect for bike riding.  One hiking trail took us along the Bogue Chitto River while another took us inland.

Our week ended too soon!  Now we are planning our next adventure.
