Baton Rouge, LA – The first leg of this RV adventure began at Farr Park in Baton Rouge, LA, the weekend before Thanksgiving 2010. We met friends for tailgating for the LSU – Ole Miss Football Game. Farr Park is just south of LSU on the River Road and is perfect for tailgating.
An equestrian facility operated by the East Baton Rouge Parks and Recreation Department, Farr Park is costs $20.00 per night which includes water, electric, and an available dump station. The roads are limestone, the pads are grass and not very level. When it rains or the water table is high, areas of the park become soggy.
From Baton Rouge we were heading to Kentwood, LA, to spend Thanksgiving week and attend Doug and Becky Elarton’s 50thanniversary party. We chose Kentwood since it is only 10 miles from the Elarton’s home.
Knowing we would be RVing alone for Thanksgiving 2010, we decided to have a “Market Thanksgiving”. The Red Stick Farmers Market in Baton Rouge is one of our favorites. The Saturday before Thanksgiving, we decided to purchase our menu items and keep it simple and “clean”. “Clean” is a term our brother-in-law, Bruce Erley, coined to describe a meal that requires “lots of chopping” of fresh items. Although we were not going to do “lots of chopping”, we were going to have lots of fresh items. After walking the market and looking at all the offerings, we decided on the following for our meal:
Yard Bird Farms – Chicken
Mon Jardin Farm – Beets
Chenier Farm – Sweet Potatoes, Butternut Squash, and Honey
Glaser’s Produce Farm — Garlic
L’Hoste Citrus – Oranges and Meyer Lemons
Smith Creamery – Butter
Mississippi Natural Products – Mushrooms
Forte Grove Breads – Lemon Rosemary Bread
After an exhausting game where LSU beat Ole Miss, we were ready to begin the next leg of our adventure. With market items on board, we left Sunday for Kentwood, LA.
We are tide fans planning on going to Arlington, for the UA vs Michigan football game on 9/1/2012.
Did you go last year and which campground would you recommend?
I have find a KOA and a place called Treetop RV Campground. Both are about 6 miles from Cowboys stadium.
Thanks, for any help
Steve Gantt
Thanks for the comment Steve. We did not go to Arlington for the games last year, we were RVing in Colorado and South Dakota at that time. We are not familiar with either of those parks. We have stayed in the Dallas area before yet on the east side of Dallas. Good luck and have fun at the game.
