Hermann MO Farmers Market

PurchasesOur typical Saturday morning includes shopping at a farmers market. This Saturday it was Hermann, MO, the picturesque town with German architecture and heritage. We never know what we will find or how many farmers will be selling. Today was a slim market yet full of options.

It really does not matter the number of farmers or the variety of products; we always find plenty to purchase. Today was no different. When shopping local, we constantly find unique products like the Cucumber Relish Laurie had to have. It is great on sandwiches as well as in tuna salad or mixed with salad dressings.

We were also lucky to purchase Buckridge peaches, a local favorite with customers lining up to buy. The fruit was meaty with a delicious flavor. We used ours to not only make peach cobbler but also as a fresh side with meals.

Another interesting purchase was the Hard Parmesan Artisan Bread. When gone, we wanted more. One downfall of traveling and not being able to shop the same farmers market each week.

And then we purchased our regulars – tomatoes, potatoes, corn, and cucumbers. The flavors of fresh, local vegetables are rich and full of body. Those flavors dance in our mouths and put a smile on our faces.

As we unloaded our purchases, we realized once again we had a successful locavore shopping experience. And as always we look forward to the next market – wherever it may be.
