Life Size Snow Globe – Quebec, CA

Since we are not traveling in 2020, we decided to go back to 2019 and write about our adventures in Canada. Spending July, August and September in the Maritimes and Quebec was an adventure of a lifetime for us. We began by tracing our roots in Nova Scotia then touring Prince Edward Island and New Burnswick and ended in Quebec.

Taking the ferry to Quebec City brought back memories of taking the ferry from our hometown of Port Allen, Louisiana to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to do shopping, go to a movie, or just ride the ferry back and forth. Once in Quebec City, we stepped off the ferry onto the narrow cobblestone streets, buildings rising up from the edge of the sidewalks and balconies everywhere. We were immediately transported back to Europe and all the excitement we experienced during our three year stay there.

Spending the day touring the city was an adventure. Meeting a couple from south Louisiana was an added pleasure. Walking until we could go no more, we found the perfect restaurant for lunch. We had a table with doors opening to the street. While we enjoyed lunch at our open air table, we were also able to view the happenings outside. After relaxing and finishing lunch, we again walked and walked.

Rounding the corner to the Palace-Royale we did not expect to find a life size snow globe, in the middle of summer no less. In the snow globe was a bust of Louis XIV. It was one of the more interesting things we experienced in Quebec City. By bringing two seasons together (summer and winter), it captured a sample of winter, which in Quebec, we were told, can sometimes be harsh.

The snow globe titled “Neiges Éternelles (Eternal Snow) by Lucie Bulot and Dylan Collins of Toronto. Said to be a reminder of the changing seasons and to reflect climate change. Not sure of all that but it was an impressive monument. The snow globe was one of many art structures of Passages Insolites 2019. There were twelve works of art, all outdoors in lower town and Saint-Roch on display from June to October.

One of the best things about our travels is finding the unexpected. We definitely found the unexpected in Quebec City in the form of a life size snow globe in the middle of summer, new friends, and that European feeling.
