The rain in Texas was daunting at times to say the least. No matter, we were determined to make the best of our visit to the Hill Country. As Saturday dawned clear and sunny, we knew it was time to get out and visit the area and we knew right where we were headed – Becker Vineyards Lavender Festival.
What began as a search for a log cabin to renovate in the Texas Hill Country has turned into a 100,000 case per year winery. The log cabin from the 1890s, the main objective of the search, was renovated in 1997. It originally served as a bed and breakfast and today is used to accommodate wedding parties and special events. In addition to the winery and vineyard, the Becker’s have planted fields of lavender and wildflowers. Today was a celebration of lavender.
Attendees could visit the edge of a planted field of lavender and photograph flowers or even take your picture surrounded by the beautiful flowers.
The festival included various vendors with Texas products from pasta to crafts and food items to wine. After walking the grounds and visiting the lavender fields we procured us each a glass of Becker Cabernet and sat on the verandah to enjoy the live music and people watch. The wine, a little pricy, was a great wine and we enjoyed it.
We are not usually festival goers but today we decided to step out of our box. It was an enjoyable spring day in the Texas Hill Country sipping wine, people watching, and soaking up the Texas culture. And, we have our Becker Vineyards wine glass to remind us of a nice, laid back day in the Texas Hill Country amid the vineyards and field of lavender.
