Something About Texas

Lithia Dodge, College Station, TX

IMG_3263Our last day in Bryan/College Station, TX started normally and quiet. We headed south to visit Independence and then to Snook for chicken fried bacon. After returning in the mid afternoon and relaxing outside, John said we need bottle water. Since we were planning to leave in the morning, off to H-E-B we go. Got water and a few other impulse buys, then back to the truck. Turn the key – nothing; try again – nothing; and so it went.

Thinking it was the battery we called Good Sam. After about an hour they finally locate a company able to jump start a 5500. An Elite Towing truck pulls up and we think great – we are tired, hungry, and ready to get home. Cables hooked up, turn the key – nothing. Okay, now we are getting worried. John and the driver smell wires burning – not good. After many phone conversations, we are hooked up to the tow truck, stuffed in the cab with the driver and headed to Lithia Bryan Chrysler Jeep Dodge at 5:45 in the evening – they close at 6 PM. We are convinced customer service is a top priority of theirs because Tammy, the customer rep and a service technician were waiting for us. The tech popped the hood even before the truck was off the tow because he too smelled burning. He was pulling wires like crazy. Bottom line – our computer had burned up. This is the second time that has happened. Once when the truck was new and now. Our truck cab had the normal items we carry around plus a few from our day trips – tool box, bike helmets, hats, etc. Locking the truck and trusting they would care for it, we head home.

Heading home was another story. We tried to rent a car and of course Enterprise was closed for the day. Tammy said she would drive us home, more excellent customer service. Then on the way to the dealer, the tow driver asked where we were staying. Interestingly he lived just down the street from the RV park and was headed home. So stuffed back in the cab of the tow truck, we finally head home.

In our eight years of RVing we have not had many major issues. In 2013 on our way to Idaho, we had major electrical issues in Bowie, TX. Ok, something about Texas.

Once home we realized Bryan would be our home for another couple of days. The next day we were notified it was the computer and nothing else had been damaged, that was a blessing. Naturally, the part had to be ordered and it would be the next day before they could replace it. So instead of leaving on Tuesday, we were now scheduled to leave on Thursday. Tammy kept us informed all along the repair way and worked hard to get BART ready for Wednesday afternoon.

After a taxi ride to Lithia, Tammy had a technician waiting to talk with us about the truck. He explained various things, but more than any explanation he made us feel comfortable having used Lithia for our repairs.

Bottom line – stuff happens. If stuff happens to you in the Bryan, TX area and it involves a Dodge, Jeep, or Chrysler product; we believe you can trust Lithia Bryan Chrysler Jeep Dodge to handle the work.

This makes twice we had trouble in TX and was treated with honest, helpful, and competent people we would return to with no hesitation. Thanks, Texas!

NOTE: As much as we would like to have a picture of BART hooked to a tow truck, pictures were the last thing on our minds.
