Cotton Bayou and Twin Bridges Trails

Backcountry Trails Day Two

IMG_2215Another beautiful fall day on the gulf and another adventure into the back country. It is hard to imagine that a gulf coast island has forested areas and even varying heights, but it does. It is like a secret waiting to be discovered.

Because all the back country trails are interconnecting it is hard to ride one or two without intersecting and riding parts of others. So it was today, we planned to ride Cotton Bayou and Twin Bridges. In order to do this, we also road part of Catman Road and no we did not see any cats. In fact we saw no wildlife today.

We parked at the Cotton Bayou Trailhead so named since it begins at the tip of Cotton Bayou. This is a short trail, approximately 1 mile, passing through dense vegetation and wetlands ending at Catman Road. Riding Catman Road for a short stretch and coming to Twin Bridges. This trail is also approximately 1 mile in length and as its name implies has bridges. The bridges are wooden and offer scenic views. The trail intersects with the Gulf Oak Ridge Trail and ends at the Orange Beach Sportsplex Trailhead.

On these trails there are no swings near lakes for napping but all along the trails there are benches for resting. What the trails offer is a ride through nature offering serene landscape and quiet moment stops.

Unfortunately we have no legends about these trails but nevertheless today was another enjoyable biking adventure.
