When John approaches “the edge” Laurie knows he either needs food, caffeine or both. So we’re driving around Zachary, LA mid-morning desperately searching for a coffee house. Droid tells us, “no Starbucks, no CC’s (Community Coffee’s coffeehouses)…not much around. Close to desperation John looked around and says, “The Chocolate Café”! On the front was a neon Coffee sign – we’re parked and going in.
Entering we found ourselves in a chocolate heaven serving coffee. The café imports Belgian chocolates twice a month from Kim’s Chocolate and has a wide and varied selection. Besides chocolate confections, the café offered mini cinnamon buns and three types of baklava – chocolate, chocolate filling and regular. Our selection included mini buns, chocolate baklava, Camille – white chocolate with lime cream filling and Alegria – vanilla butter cream and caramel chocolate along with coffee. Ariel made fresh coffee served in mugs; we are not big on paper or styrofoam cups so the mugs received many stars.
We enjoyed our coffee and sweets as well as visiting with other customers. The Chocolate Café is a local gem and one we will return to when in the area.
