Scenes from Idaho

Moores CreekIdaho City, ID had one of the richest gold finds in North America during the 1860’s.  A visit there was recommended by most people we spoke with in Boise.  Off we went in search of Idaho City only to realize the ride there was beauty itself.  Below are scenes we encountered along the way to Idaho City.  The beauty was breath taking, but at the same time made us realize how difficult life must have been during the development of the Northwest Territory.

A scenic drive for us was a treacherous journey for the pioneers.  Today’s trip from Boise of 41 miles up Highway 21 takes about an hour.  The “Old Toll Road” built in 1864 from Boise to Idaho City was a shorter distance than Highway 21 but took an entire day to reach Idaho City.

One of the waterways was named Moore’s Creek after J. Marion Moore.  He came from the south in 1862 and unlike most miners Moore struck it rich.  He had investments in mining camps and was prominent in building Idaho City.  Unfortunately, he was shot to death arguing over mining claims.

It was so good to see your comment on my blog! I actually tried to access both of your blogs shortly after you left the Museum. Both sites told me that they were down for maintenance.

I enjoyed these photos and your Idaho posts! I look forward to reading more!

    Glad you are home safe,
    Karen

P.S. Please give me the cooking site URL again.
