Solid Grounds – foundation for building, an anchor for stability, a great cup of coffee.
All of these definitions explain Solid Grounds Coffee Shop in Elgin, Tx. For owners Tammy and Jeanne, Solid Grounds is the foundation for a gathering place in Elgin, TX where you can enjoy a cup of coffee made from locally roasted beans, live music, gospel to rock, on weekends, and Tammy’s homemade delectable treats. They hope it will be the anchor that binds Solid Grounds to the Elgin community and brings locals as well as travelers in for a great cup coffee and conversation.
The coffee shop is small and intimate with four inside tables and two outside tables. It is nice to sit outside on cool days with the only distraction the traffic on Highway 290. Even with the traffic, sitting out is a retreat of a different nature. All sounds affect us in different ways, there are days I sit outside and wonder where the travelers are headed and dream of places to visit.
Solid Grounds has all the amenities of coffee shops – free Wi-Fi and frequent drinkers card. These are nice but that is not what brought me to Solid Grounds.
For me Solid Grounds is an anchor in my sister’s journey through cancer. There are no medical treatments, no medicines to be dispensed and no discussions of upcoming medical appointments, just a great cup of coffee and a quiet retreat. I read my Kindle with soft music playing in the background. I talk with Tammy about upcoming events or her homeschooling of her son. What they have learned in Latin class and what is on the horizon for learning.
Solid Grounds is a new business with its grand opening this weekend, Friday, October 26, 2012. There will be specials all day and live music from 8-11 pm featuring The Followthrough.
