Wolf Ranch Farmers Market, Georgetown, TX
Another Saturday, another farmers market…
We visit so many farmers markets, you would think they all begin to look the same. Absolutely not! Each is different even though some have similar veggies and other products. One of the things we enjoy is visiting different areas and seeing what is in season since each growing season is different for each area. Continue reading
Dos Salsas, Georgetown, TX
Our Saturday morning equation is breakfast out and a farmers market. Some mornings it is breakfast first and then shopping and other times it is reversed. The order does not matter, it is getting both accomplished that we look forward to.
Being in an area for one maybe two Saturday’s at most does not give us time to search out those out of the way hole in the walls places. So we rely on friends to steer us in the best direction. Continue reading
Freedom… Bush Library, College Station, TX
The Texas Mustangs want to run wild and free across the countryside. The people of Berlin, Germany wanted to be free to cross from East to West. Both groups had a desire for freedom and dreamed of one day being able to run, jump, and cross at will.
Approaching the Bush Library we were drawn to a sculpture on one side. At a distance we could tell it was large mustangs jumping over something. As we approached, we realized it was pieces of the Berlin Wall. Continue reading
Something About Texas
Lithia Dodge, College Station, TX
Our last day in Bryan/College Station, TX started normally and quiet. We headed south to visit Independence and then to Snook for chicken fried bacon. After returning in the mid afternoon and relaxing outside, John said we need bottle water. Since we were planning to leave in the morning, off to H-E-B we go. Got water and a few other impulse buys, then back to the truck. Turn the key – nothing; try again – nothing; and so it went. Continue reading
Chicken Fried What? Snook, TX
Snook, TX population 511. Why in the world would we want to visit – what possibly could be of interest? For John, it has been about five years in the making. That’s how long it’s been since he first heard about Snook. Maybe more specifically, what Snook offered the foodie culture – chicken fried bacon. That is correct – fat, dipped in fat, fried in fat. Continue reading
More Than Wildflowers – Independence, TX
Springtime in Texas mixes beautiful sunny but cool weather together with a proliferation of wild flowers, the most famous of which is bluebonnets. Our travels brought us from Livingston to central Texas, right where the bluebonnets were in bloom. It was the kind of weather which made you want to get out to the countryside. Continue reading
Food Fight at New Republic Brewing, College Station, TX
Someone threw a roll, then someone else threw a kernel of corn, and so it began – food fight in the high school cafeteria. Not something you would want to be involved in later in life. So why would we intentionally go to a “food fight”?
This food fight was a lot different and involved food trucks, beer, wine, and bourbon. Wow, something for everyone and more. This is the type of food fight we could get involved in. Continue reading
Brazos Valley Farmers Market, Bryan, TX
It’s really kind of ironic that we are dedicated locavores considering we full time RV and constantly change our location. Maybe because of this, Saturday’s have a special meaning for us – farmers markets! Continue reading
Joie de Vivre Coffee and Culture Café – Breaux Bridge, LA
Joie de Vivre – the joy of living or in this case the joy of coffee.
We have been to Joie de Vivre many times over the last few years. The enjoyment of coffee and pastries to dancing on a Thursday night have made many memorable occasions. Continue reading
