Brigham City, UT

TempleThe white spires against the blue sky could be seen for miles. The white structure sat high above the city and was brilliant in the sunlight.   As we came closer, we realized it a structure of the Mormon Church.  Not knowing much about the Mormon faith, we knew we wanted to learn more while we were in Brigham City, UT. Waiting on the Train in Brigham City, UT

TrainsWater was our frame of reference for transportation growing up.  Living on the Mississippi River, barge traffic and ferry boats were seen daily and growth was along the banks of the River.  Now that our wandering has brought us westward, we realize how important the railroads were in developing towns as the population moved west. Let It Grow

Outside OasisFarmers Market deprived, that is what we have been.  On the road for four weeks and no farmers markets available to us.  Anyone who knows us; knows we purchase most of our groceries from farmers markets on a weekly basis.  Withdrawal had begun to set in.

Arriving in Cortez, CO we headed to the Colorado Visitor Center for information on local attractions.  On the street corner we saw a sign for “Let It Grow” having fresh vegetables and coffee.  Now we were really in heaven – fresh vegetables and coffee, on our way.  Unfortunately they were closed for the next two days.  No worry we would still be in town; add Let It Grow to places to visit. Clines Corners, NM

signHeading south from Santa Fe, NM the landscape became more and more desolate.  There was very little traffic and even fewer structures on the horizon.  The highway was good, four lane at times divided; just not well traveled.  We were beginning to think there would be nothing until we arrived in Roswell, NM.  Then on the horizon we could see traffic and an oasis – Clines Corners. Galloping Goose

Galloping Goose No. 5Sipping coffee and talking with Teresa, owner of The Pony Expresso, we were asked what brought us to Dolores, CO.  Laurie answered we wanted to see the Galloping Goose and Teresa started laughing saying not many people come for that reason.  Maybe not but we thought the Galloping Goose was unique and deserved a visit.
