Daisy Airgun Museum – Rogers, AR

CoverGrowing up in the 50s and 60s every boy in the neighbor probably had one as well as Laurie’s sister, Libbie. It was the perfect Christmas present or maybe birthday. Guns and boys just went together. And when the gun is a Daisy, what could be better.

Rogers, AR is home to not only Daisy Outdoor Products but also the Daisy Airgun Museum. Daisy began its journey to Rogers in Plymouth, MI in the late 1800s with inventor Clarence Hamilton. Hamilton was selling windmills but operated Plymouth Air Rifle Company as well. The windmill business was floundering so he approached the board with his air rifle. History says, General Manager L. C. Hough fired the gun and said “Boy, that’s a Daisy”; a colloquialism. And as they say the rest is history – Daisy Airgun was born. For a time the gun was given to anyone who purchased a windmill. By 1895 the gun became so popular, windmills were no longer manufactured. In 1958 the plant was moved to Rogers, AR where guns have rolled off the line ever since.

What started out as a few gun cases in the plant’s offices has turned into a first class museum. In October 2004, Daisy Museum relocated to downtown Rogers in the former Rexall Drug Building. The museum is divided into history periods including displays of guns used in American Armed Forces training. One such gun was the WWII Aerial Machinegun. Over three billion B-Bs were used during the training and the gun could fire about 500 B-Bs per minute. That is a lot of B-Bs!

Walking through the museum would be a walk down memory lane for many “boys”. But let’s not forget the “girls”. Daisy has pink handled guns available! From the early prototypes to the models you would readily recognize if you’d ever owned a “Daisy”.
