Helton Howland Park – Tallapossa GA

Military vehicles and equipment caught our eye as we traveled US Highway 78 in Tallapossa GA. A note was made to return when we had time to visit the park. Tallapossa GA is the home of Safe T Plus, one of whose products is a steering control unit for motorhomes. We were there to have ours checked. Needing to stay longer than expected, we had the time to return to Helton Howland Park. Continue reading

Street Art in Carmel Indiana

When traveling we never know what we will see along the way. In Carmel IN, we found public art on the street in the form of statues. In fact, it is said Carmel has the largest number of J. Seward Johnson statues outside of his home state of New Jersey. Most of the statues are from the “Celebrating the Familiar” collection. This collection consists of realistic moments of everyday life. We by no means have all the statues of Johnson or the other many statues, but we have enough for you to enjoy. If you are ever near Carmel, IN (just north of Indianapolis) stop and enjoy their street art! Continue reading

The Day The Music Died – Clear Lake IA

Growing up in the 1950s and 1960s, we were the rock and roll generation. And for that generation, February 3, 1959 was a black day in music history. It became known in later years as “the day the music died”. Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and “The Big Bopper” J.P. Richardson along with pilot Roger Peterson were killed in a plane crash near Clear lake, Iowa. Continue reading

The Grotto of the Redemption – West Bend, IA

A young seminarian who immigrated to America at 20 years of age, lay critically ill and began praying to the Blessed Virgin Mary. He prayed he would recover and promised to build a shrine in her honor. He regained his health, completed his studies and was ordained a Roman Catholic Priest. He never forgot his promise and for over ten years collected rocks and precious stones.

Jolly Green Giant Statue – Blue Earth MN

From the Valley of the Jolly, Ho Ho Ho, Green Giant! Many of us grew up hearing this jingle and probably never really thought about the what, where and how. There is a valley, the Minnesota River Valley around Le Sueur MN. Since 1935 there’s been a Green Giant logo and since 1978 there’s been a Green Giant Statue.

Cabrini Farmers Market – Alexandria, LA

On the road again – finally! After being stationery for more months than we could ever imagine, we are rolling again. Not only were we unable to travel, we have not been to a farmers market in over a year. All that changed a few weeks ago while we were staying at Paragon Casino RV Park in Marksville LA.

Surprise! You Have To Leave Now!!

It will happen sooner or later, the knock on the RV and a ranger saying you have to evacuate. For us, it happened at Bayou Segnette State Park in Westwego, Louisiana. The area had received almost 10 inches of rain and the park had many areas flooded. No water had reached any RV and was not expected to rise. But out of an abundance of caution, the state decided to close the park and we had to leave immediately. Only problem, this occurred at 5pm one afternoon and all campers had to scramble to find other accommodations.
