The Caboose Museum – Complete with Message Hoop

In the formative years of America, the railroad tied cities together. The rails carried not only people to the new frontier, but also supplies, mail and other items. Many towns display rail cars, mainly engines or cabooses, celebrating the rail history of their area. Most towns have museums, many in non-descript buildings packed with history. Continue reading

Rosemary Dunes, Rattlesnake Ridge, Butterfly Garden and Bolder Park, and the Indian and Sea Museum – interesting names and a great bike ride. On our last trip of back country biking, we decided to make it a day. After packing a picnic along with our usual water and snacks we headed out to enjoy another beautiful fall day on the Alabama gulf coast. Continue reading

Where Trains Rolled – Day 2

Covington TrailheadSometimes you expect the same, only things are different. Our first experience with The Tammany Trace began from Fontainebleau State Park through wooded areas, quiet and relaxing. Today, beginning at the Covington trailhead was totally different. Hustle and bustle, traffic, workers, stores, and a mid-day market with people purchasing lunch. But with another perfect south Louisiana day and the trails calling, we began our second biking experience of the Trace by trucking our bikes to the Covington Trailhead and rode toward Abita Springs. Rescued by Wildlife

The “Mighty Mississippi” just keeps rolling along and rising.

Living five houses from the levee, we wanted to put some distance between our house and our RV. We headed to Tickfaw State Park which would allow us to commute to work and be high and dry. At least as high as Louisiana will allow. Having been to Tickfaw in October 2010 and blogged about the trip we were not sure what we would blog about this time. Never underestimate new finds in old locations.

Eagle Watch

Get That Exercise – Bike the RV Trail

Mullet Point Parking Area

A while back, we decided to begin bike riding for exercise and for the most part we enjoy the exercise, being outdoors, doing something together, and hopefully benefiting from the activity.  We ordered two bikes from Wally World (more on that in another post) and mountied two Thule Low Rider Bike Mounts on the bed of the truck just behind the headache rack — thus began our adventure.
