Brazos Valley Farmers Market, Bryan, TX

IMG_2730It’s really kind of ironic that we are dedicated locavores considering we full time RV and constantly change our location. Maybe because of this, Saturday’s have a special meaning for us – farmers markets!

It is always a special adventure to seek out a new market in a different city. This Saturday we were in Bryan/College Station, TX and one of the first things we did was search for farmers markets. The Brazos Valley Farmers Market is in Bryan, TX and we were on our way.

The Saturday market is located in the Brazos County Health Department parking lot in Bryan, TX. Our Saturday excursion was on a chilly, damp, April morning. Even with the weather not cooperating, the farmers were out in force. Lots and lots of greens from kale to beets along with the beet bulbs. One farmer had white beets, we had not seen these before. Asparagus were available along with beef, eggs, and carrots. One of our best finds was a baker, Twisted Bakery, selling sourdough multi-grain bread and cardamom twisted bread. We had to purchase both and were not disappointed.

In addition to the bread, we purchased eggs, asparagus, fresh garlic, and beets. We are rarely disappointed except when a market is advertised but no longer in existence, which was the case the week before in Livingston TX. But this was another great Saturday morning farmers market. Some are larger than others, but it is always great to purchase your food from the person who grew it.IMG_2758
