Joe Momma’s Breakfast Eatery, Eagle, Idaho

EntranceTypical of family gatherings, there is usually too much food and the wedding festivities were no disappointment.  After a week of one meal after the other, we laid off for a day and then just had to push the envelope.  Breakfast is our favorite meal to eat out — we enjoy sitting with a cup of coffee and discussing the goings on and our plans for the next few days.

Being south Louisiana Cajuns, we enjoy going out but sometimes it is difficult to find food better than we can cook.  We love to look for local places which source from the surrounding area.  That brought us to Joe Momma’s.

Wow, is what we have to say about Joe Momma’s breakfast.  First off, for anything north of Shreveport, coffee can be a problem.  We recently stopped for a road break and coffee, and the stuff was unrecognizable as coffee.  Not so at Joe Mamma’s — the coffee was robust and full of flavor.  It made us wonder, where are we?

The pancakes, which we were told they are famous for, were rich, thick with that crispy outside edge while the center was soft and sweet.  Laurie’s only problem was she did not have her Steen’s Syrup.  That did not matter because the pancake stood on its own.

The Veggie Hash was like a breakfast salad, loaded with vegetables – tomatoes, artichokes, green onions, mushrooms, spinach and green chilies then topped with avocado, salsa, and Swiss cheese.  Two eggs of your choice topped off the hash.  The flavors were Cajun Two Stepping in our mouths.  The hash fresh, favorable, and filling.  A “Go Box” went home with us.

We’re always looking for a twist on Eggs Benedict and Momma’s came through with Crab Cake Bennie — outstanding!  The Hollandaise sauce was rich and creamy yet not too heavy.  We had the House Potatoes which were roasted with crispiness and went great with the Hollandaise.  The dish was an English Muffin, Crab Cake, and Poached Egg.  The server even asked how we wanted the eggs poached (soft, medium, hard).  We chose medium and the yolks were perfectly runny.  Laurie’s only complaint was the crab cake could have been a little thicker.  Even with that we would highly recommend this dish.  No “Go Box” was necessary for this one.

After our first trip to Joe Momma’s we decided we had to return to see if it really was as good as we made it out to be or were we just that hungry on our first visit.  Consistency ruled the day, conformation was made, and we’re officially recommending Joe Mamma’s!  The second trip was as good as the first and if we are in the Eagle, ID area again we will return for a third time (or more).
