Texas in our Rearview Mirror

The wind in Texas has been unrelenting.  We stopped in Nocona, TX on Tuesday.  Wanting to sit outside and enjoy the evening, we set up chairs and our small table, had a glass of wine and the wind about beat us to a pulp.  This has been a crazy weather trip along with our repairs.

Since we have to be in Boise, ID Monday, we do not have the pleasure to visit the towns we stop in for the night.  After Nocona, TX, we stopped in Dumas, TX.  We did some grocery shopping and wanted local food.  John asked a local of Hispanic origin where he would go for local Mexican food.  He sent us to Los Potrillos and we had our mouths set for margaritas and good local food.  Entering the restaurant we should have taken notice immediately, only gringos having dinner.  Obvisiously we are not very observant, things did not register.  We ordered margaritas only to learn Dumas is in a dry county – ugh.  Next we ordered “homemade” guacamole.  It tasted like ones we have had from supermarkets with tomatoes added.  It was totally creamy not a piece of avocado to be found.  By then Laurie was ready to leave, but we stayed.  The Gorditas entrée was nothing to write home about.  Needless to say we were not impressed with the food in Dumas.  We were impressed with the overnight stop.  Dumas has a city park with free overnight camping.  There is electricity only and it is a concrete parking lot, but for the price it is great.  There is a donation box and we contributed our fair share.  We were glad to see Dumas and Texas in our rearview mirror.

It took us five days to slow waltz across Texas.
